My brother, Doug Bishoff, is in surgery right now to remove a brain tumor. What was scheduled for last week had to be postponed when they found something unusual in his spinal fluid test. They are still not sure what to expect and won't get the biopsy back for 5 days but I know he is God's hands. I also know how Arden prayers work and am begging you to say one for Doug. I am on my way to UVA Hospital in Charlottsville in a moment and will keep you posted. Always thinking of you, Cindy Allen

This is a follow up to the email that Jan sent on our friend Doug's little girl, Kailee Vance. If you remember she has been fighting cancer for the past few years and had recently had a major setback. She had surgery yesterday and things went better than expected. This is the latest on James' friend Doug Vance's eight year old daughter, Kailee. They live in the northern Virginia area and we have had her on our prayer list for quite some time.Right now she is in the greatest need of prayers.--Jan Chancey An excerpt from her Caring Bridge site (written by Doug): "So this is the part I dread and where I ask for your help.Kailee is scheduled for surgery on Monday. I wish I could say it was a small procedure, but it is not. We are working with the best and we have found the team at Sloan Kettering in New York City. They will be removing the tumor along with threat tissue that has come in contact with the cancer. This means Kailee will be losing her right lung. It is not a total surprise, as Kari and I have been working this conversation continuously. I wish I could say it eased the angst and process even a little bit. Maybe it did, but it is still the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with. We know we have the best team working on this and it is time to get this cancer out of her body, while her body can still recover. We leave for NYC tomorrow, and will check into the hospital for the procedure first thing Monday morning. We will be in NYC for around 2 weeks as Kailee recovers from the surgery. Our family will be sepa rated (her sisters will stay at home with my parents). We are still figuring out all the back to school activities and tasks that need to happen in our absence. Kailee knows of the surgery and presses toward it, even though I know she is nervous and a bit scared. The detail of the surgery and recovery is more than I would like to post, and so I share this; it is a big deal and we need you now more than ever. We need thoughts and prayers for our girl. She is so incredibly strong and does everything we ask of her and does it well. I know she will do her part once again, and do it flawless. This is a complex operation and recovery. So I need everything on our side: the doctors, the nurses, the facility, the equipment..everything. Ill take luck, so long as its good. Ill burn every favor I ever held or could be indebted to, just to get the results and response we want and need. I ask each of you to think of Kailee. I ask that each of you push good thoughts towards her. I ask that you pray for her safety, recovery, and ultimate victory and success over this challenge. I will be forever in you debt for the time and attention you give towards my little girl. Please forward to anyone you know that can lend thoughts and prayers for Kailee. Tell them who Kailee is. Bill's brother, Lonnie Riggleman, had a heart attack last night and is now in Winchester Medical Center in CCU. He will have a catherization done tomorrow, August 29. Please keep him in your prayers. Thanks for your prayers, Gail

I had my colonoscopy today and everything was CLEAR!!!! It has been a great week with all my appointments and doctors. Thanks again for those Arden prayers. They have been working well!! Laura Meske

I went to Dr. Stewart, my oncologist, on Friday and she and I talked for quite a bit. While there was cancer in the tumor of my appendix, she is not worried with that. She is worried about the melanoma that Ive had and she wants me to get a second opinion about the five moles that I am concerned with. I go to Dr. Wenzel near the end of September. She ordered a CT scan (which I had done yesterday) to check for more melanoma and I get the results back from the scan tomorrow (Wed.). I go this Friday to have my colonoscopy. I am doing well and the kids are keeping me very busy and keeping my mind off things. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers the past two years and please keep them coming. I am hoping to be done with doctors REAL soon!!! Laura Meske

Just an update on my recovery that is taking a long time it seems. I think most everyone knows about my accident with the hay wagon that ran over my leg. My leg continues to be swollen so I'm having surgery to put in a drain for a few days. Surgery is on Monday, July 26, at Tri State Surgical Center. The drain will be removed in about 4 days. Having been blessed with good health, this has been a challenge for me. So thanks for the prayers; please keep them up a little longer. God Bless you, Gail

This is an update to the prayer request from Beth Puffenberger Mann last week. Chase was with a UM mission group and dove into shallow water resulting in serious injuries. This latest news comes from Gary Lewis, Beth's cousin. Mary Ellen DeHaven Chase tolerated two reductions of his ventilator pressure settings today with excellent oxygen levels and improved lung sounds. He spent the night on the lowest settings and has been promised to be fitted for a trach valve collar in the morning an all important step towards food. Pierre Malherbe, one of Chases close cross country teammates, was able to visit with Chase this afternoon.. Pierre was born in South Africa, and has recently returned from a visit there. He brought Chase a hat and one of those noisy horns from the World Cup Games (the ones we have all been complaining about listening to while we watch the games on TV!). Chases MRI showed a bruised spinal cord (thankfully not severed) with some swelling remaining both above and below the site of injury. This is exactly what Dr. Levi anticipated at this point in time, which is why we have to have patience. We continue to be told it is too early to know what healing or functions Chase can regain, and that this often takes months or even up to a year to determine. We remain hopeful and pray that as the swelling decreases and he begins the rehab process, Chase will recover. We are also aware of Gods almighty power and presence in our lives, and His ability to heal. As we walk around the buildings surrounding Jackson Memorial Hospital, we pass the Bob Hope Parkinsons Research Institute, Baucom Eye Research Institute, Louis Pope Life Center (where the Miami Project for paralysis is housed), and building after building of other specialized research centers. And we are just seeing those centers that are collected in one small place in this world. We cannot help but acknowledge that our life here on this great earth is filled with trials, trouble and pain. Gods healing presence and love is needed by so many. That realization is overwhelming, and we can only lean on Him and draw our strength each day not because we are strong, but because we are weak. It is also here, in this difficult place, that we witness the goodness and comfort of God. Hopefully some of our wise and more enlightened ministers can add better understanding to all our difficult questions over time. Just be assured that we experience the closeness of God in our private time, and feel His love as he uses so many of you to love, support and encourage us. We are forever grateful for this Goodness of life, and for you. And we desire to be bold enough to continue to ask for Gods complete healing for Chase. In His care, Deb and Larry

Many thanks to all for lifting Dottie Pownall in prayer. She has several broken bones, most seriously a break in her lower back. It has been determined that there was no injury to the spinal cord. Dottie will need surgery on her shoulder and has a broken finger and possibly a broken ankle. Her daughter, Kayla, suffered severe bruising. Considering the car rolled four times down an embankment, we are very thankful that both Dottie and Kayla are stable and responsive. Again, thank you! Colleen and Doug Miller

Dear Friends, This evening (Wednesday), I received word that a friend of ours, Dottie Pownall, had been in a serious car accident in Charleston this afternoon. All I know is that she was airlifted to Morgantown and her family has gone there. Her daughter, Kayla, was also in the car, but is okay. This is all the info we have. Please lift her in prayer.
